The 175 Campaign is the largest fundraising campaign the school has ever embarked upon.  This termly newsletter has been introduced to update you on its progress s as well as to introduce any new programmes and events.

Another year has flown by and 2018 has been a year of triumph and tragedy at Bishops - through it all, the wonderful Bishops Community remains constant and we cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support throughout the year.

The Trustees of the Bishops Trust wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday and a prosperous New Year.

Pro fide et patria.

THE EXTRA TERM

The Extra Term Bursary fund was piloted in 2016 on the premise that if four families contribute an additional terms fees each year it would create a bursary opportunity for a talented child who does not have the means to attend a school like Bishops.

To date, eight boys have been assisted through this programme - a bursary fund with a personal touch.  We ask benefactors to commit to one boy through his five years at College.  The donor is introduced to the recipient and his family, thereby providing an opportunity for the benefactor to establish a relationship  beyond financial support.

Donor Testimonial

Graeme Prevost

"During the course of time, one gets approached by numerous charities for donations, but invariably they are faceless as one just transacts an EFT and you’re done.

The reason we got involved in the “Extra Term” initiative was threefold:

1. We wholeheartedly believe in what Bishops is all about. It has far exceeded our expectations on all accounts – for us, a worthy recipient of funds;

2. We wanted to make our contribution personal, a two way dialogue of learning about challenges and sharing experiences, We also wanted to expose our son to different circumstances;

3. We wanted to give a boy a chance to have a great life experience at Bishops; if we could help a boy and his family in whatever small way, then we have made a difference.

PREP LIBRARY AND LEARNING CENTRE

The old Library has been knocked down to make way for 21st century learning.  The existing library will be replaced with a modern, progressive resource centre that:
  • Fosters a love of reading and research;
  • Offers a light airy space that is flexible and connects to a reading garden;
  • Can accommodate technology rich, innovate learning experiences
  • Enables the four critical 21st century skills: communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking;
We are still hoping to raise the remaining R2.7 million required to ensure that all the planned features can be incorporated.   Thank you to everyone who has already contributed so generously.

CONVERSATIONS THAT MATTER

As we feel our way through murky waters of 21st Century education and what it entails, it is critical to include conversations of diversity, transformation and the changes in education required to ensure a better education exists for each and every child in South Africa.

"Coming to Bishops was one of my childhood dreams. I understand that this is a lifetime opportunity.

That is why I will do my best to grab this opportunity with both hands."

2017 Extra Term recipient

The Christian Rohrer Scholarship Fund has been established by a Bishops family to commemorate Christian.
His  passing has been a devastating loss for the Bishops Community.  This scholarship will ensure that his memory will always live on at Bishops.  This legacy will have an enormous impact as it will create life-changing opportunities for talented boys who do not have the means to attend Bishops.
