Dear College Parents

I hope that you enjoyed your short holiday with your sons. This is the last official week at school for the Matrics, which culminates with Prize Giving and Valedictory tomorrow. Please note that the Grade 10 boys are excused from school tomorrow unless they are winning prizes. This is to facilitate more space in the Mallett Centre and Chapel. The Grade 9’s are expected to be at Prize Giving but not at the Valedictory, again due to space constraints.

During the holidays several boys were involved in various sporting events, and they performed very well overall.  Details are included in the attached assembly notices. The notices also highlight some exceptional achievements by our boys across a range of activities, a reminder of the amazing talent we have at Bishops.

During the holidays, Maree and I were privileged to accompany a group of OD’s on a tour to the Western Front. This included the dedication of a commemorative plaque in the St Georges Chapel at Ypres in memory of the 112 OD’s who lost their lives in World War 1. Following this we laid a wreath at the Menin Gate in Ypres at the last post and wreath-laying ceremony. These were both very special and moving occasions. The last post and wreath-laying ceremony at the Menin Gate takes place every evening of the year at 8pm. For your interest, a full report and photographs of the tour, compiled by the UK OD Secretary, Nicky Bicket, can be accessed HERE and the tour booklet HERE.

Since re-launching the MySchool Card initiative the response has been very positive, and many members of the Bishops community have either applied for a new card, or have started using their old ones again.  Our thanks to those who have taken up the challenge of ‘Every Swipe Counts’! As this is a painless way to fundraise, we again appeal to you to please apply for your MySchool card and use it as much as possible at any Woolworths or partner store.  Please see attached information and application form.

Please see attached an update on the Bishops Trust.

I would like to wish you and your boys all the best for this short but very busy and important term, only 8 weeks long!

Yours sincerely

Guy Pearson
