WELCOME

It is an interesting time in South Africa and education is key to changing the trajectory of where our beautiful country is headed. In a recent future-fitting exercise undertaken by the school, the question was asked, "Why does South Africa need schools like Bishops?" To answer this question, we had to look at what Bishops contributes to South Africa and the answer was clear. A Bishops education has produced leadership in all realms of South African society; from big business to grassroot projects. To ensure that Bishops remains relevant and a school that inspires excellence, an in-depth needs analysis was performed and as a result, in 2016, the Bishops Trust was reinstated with 3 key tasks.
  • Bursaries - to provide funds for talented pupils to attend Bishops;
  • Capital Development - to upgrade facilities with future needs in mind;
  • General Endowment - to grow the General Endowment Fund so that in future years Bishops may be self-sustainable.
To this end, the 175 Campaign was born. This newsletter will provide key updates on the Capital Campaign as well as on the Hamilton Mvelase Bursary Fund. In this issue we reveal the first capital project and introduce you to the Trustees.

The Prep Library and Learning Centre

As Bishops plans to prepare our pupils for a rapidly evolving world, focus on skills acquisition and the most productive methodologies of teaching and learning are even more critical. With knowledge now available at the touch of a button, how you access it and what you do with it becomes all important. Libraries at schools remain as essential as ever but are being adapted to function as multi-purpose learning spaces.
This project aims to provide just such a centre and with thanks to the Bishops community, we are almost in a position to do so.

THANK YOU

To each person who has supported the campaign thus far, please know your gift will impact someone. Be it the child whose life is transformed through a bursary, or the children whose education will be elevated with more relevant facilities. To the OD year-groups who have collaborated to raise funds! To the Bishops learners who have donated R10 a month! To their slightly older counterparts who have contributed R20 million and to everyone in-between, please accept our heartfelt thanks for helping us shape the leaders of a transforming society.
