FRIDAY 4 May 2018
Dear Parents

SUPPORT AT SPORTS MATCHES
Please see the communication from the Heads of a number of schools in Cape Town and the Boland regarding support at sports fixtures. We are fortunate that so many of you do support our boys’ fixtures but we do need to ensure that it is always positive. We look forward to a wonderful winter season and let’s remember that in the end it is essentially a game. I will also speak to the boys at assembly about our expectations of them on and off the field.

START OF THE 3RD TERM
A slight change to the calendar: school will only start on Wednesday, 18 July for the boys as the entire academic staff is involved in a staff conference on 16 and 17 July.

DROUGHT UNIFORM
Winter is on its way and we are very grateful for the much needed rain. Water security remains a high priority at Bishops and the projects to mitigate the water threat to Bishops are progressing well. To date 25 waterless urinals have been installed and 109 toilets have been converted from Municipal water supply to de-ionized borehole water. The construction of the water treatment plant with the capacity to supply 80kl of potable water per day is progressing well and is on track. The construction process is planned to be complete by the end of May and this will be followed by an extended testing period to comply with Departmental and Municipal approved standards. We hope to be fully operational by the start of term 3.

Water remains a scarce resource and we need to keep doing all we can to use water sparingly. Considering the measures we have taken and after discussion with the School Executive, we have decided to stop our drought uniform policy across the school from Monday 7th May. It was never our intention to continue this practice indefinitely and we have found that general neatness and tidiness have slipped over the past few months.

Sports uniform may only be worn to school if your son has a Phys Ed lesson before short break, otherwise it is khakis as before. The tracksuit may be worn with khakis as part of the winter uniform.

PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE
I want to thank the parents willing to serve on the Committee who are:

Charmaine Cheminais (Chair)
Jacqui Petersen (Secretary)
Diane Davidson (Treasurer)
Arthur Mngxekeza
Bulelani Calana

For us at Bishops, community involvement and continuing to engender a spirit of volunteerism is very important and we ask that you do consider joining the PA. Please email Charmaine in this regard charmaine.cheminais@gmail.com.

The PA will run a tuckshop at the SACS rugby games tomorrow and I encourage you to support them in this.

All the best for a good weekend.

Kind regards
