This is a very difficult time for everyone with boys and staff having to stay at home if they display any of the Covid symptoms. Similarly, we have over thirty boys working from home across the Prep and Pre-Prep, in nearly all cases quarantining because a family member has tested positive.

The Department of Basic Education announced a return to all sport as well as inter-school fixtures last Sunday, subject to particular protocols being observed. Consequently we will have hockey matches next week and the first rugby matches are planned for Saturday, 21 August. These games are all outside so the safest possible environment.

However, we are aware that numbers are still high in the Western Cape and we are not yet over the third wave, so we have to still be very careful. As a school we continue with screening, sanitising, social distancing and mask wearing. But we are concerned that outside school the situation is too relaxed. Please support us all by ensuring:

• no sleepovers;
  
• masks to be worn in cars where there are groups of boys;
  
• no large parties;
  
• boys get togethers are limited to outside activities;
  
• if your son displays any cold / flu-like symptoms or has an upset stomach or nausea, that you keep him at home.

67 METRES OF CANS
We had a wonderful response to our drive for cans. In the end we collected 95 metres equating to 1235 cans of food (worked out mathematically, not counted!) and Ladles of Love are collecting them today. Thank you for your generosity and well done to our boys who we challenged to take responsibility for this and they have responded so well.

WOMEN’S DAY
This weekend we remember the more than 20 000 women who marched so courageously on the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the mandatory carrying of passes by black people, and its extension to include women. Women’s Day also draws attention to the abuse of and discrimination against women: sexual harassment, domestic violence and rape; unequal pay; schooling for girls; gender equality. During the month we will draw our boys’ attention to these issues in an age-appropriate way.
