Dear Parents

My diary quotes Flavia Medrut for June and I think it is rather fun to share her thoughts:  Laughter might be the only contagious thing that you actually want to catch.  So laugh whenever you get the chance, and laugh hard even when people give you funny looks.  The right kind of person will start laughing too, without even knowing why.  May this new month be full of smiles and laughter for you all.

The cold weather has arrived and the unpredictable rain has certainly made an appearance.  Please be reminded that we will continue to supervise boys that are signed up for a school sport, even if the weather does not permit us to be outside.  During soft showers, we can continue with some winter sport but when there is a downpour, this is not possible.  We will then supervise your son in an inside venue, covering sportsmanship and other related topics of discussion.  With covid still lurking, if we have a very large group of boys and no venue big enough, we may offer you the chance to collect the boys early, if you so choose, but this is not standard practice and really depends on the many challenges we face on a daily basis. It is more challenging for outside service providers as there are not always indoor venues available for them to suitably offer an indoor lesson. In these cases they may need to cancel lessons which is sometimes unavoidable.

As we turn our diaries to the pages headed JUNE, we suddenly find that we head into the last few weeks before the end of the term 2.

It may be a good idea to confirm you spaces with the privately offered extra murals for next term (tennis, clay, golf, judo, young engineers, playball) but school offered sport (hockey, tag rugby, art, chess and cross country) stay the same for both term 2 and 3 unless you have notified the school of your intention to change. Please remember that next term, chess in Grade R and drama in Grade 1 and 2 will be offered to the red classes (van Zyl, Merrick and Anstey).

Next week we head into the last full week of sport.  All extramural activities end on Wednesday 15 June.

Wishing you all an exciting weekend ahead and wishing Ms Fiona Stuart, a very happy birthday on 9th.

Kind regards

TAKE NOTE
Haircuts
I included the revised hair policy in the newsletter last week but there are still some boys who need to have a haircut.  I appeal to you to please take some time to read the policy and make the necessary adjustments to your son's hair. I will be asking teachers to follow up with those boys who still need to have a haircut next week.

Message from Youth Pastor

The Lord be with you

We began this week learning about the light of Christ and the with Pascal candle being extinguished. It's glow no longer visible in our presence. This has caused much anxiety to the church and it's people for now we may feel that God in Christ is no longer with us. But is it so? Has Christ really left us desolate and unattended to in these troubling times in our world? Well, I don’t believe our Lord would do such to us. And so the week was affirming to us as it marked Child Protection Week, and this reminded us that we are still being protected and taken care of.

We find comfort in knowing that we are taken care of despite the illness that surrounds us at home and here at school. We found time to reflect on the miracles that Christ has done in the sight of His people. We asked the question of whether or not our Lord was just a mere magician or an actual miracle worker. Having looked at the stage performance of magicians we learnt that they can trick us into believing them. But Jesus, through the Power of God did miracles that were able to save people and give healing, especially to those who believed. Even in today's uncertainties, God can heal us and give us our lives back through our collective faith.

Let us pray

Lord, we thank you for the powerful work of your Son Jesus, who lived amongst people and shared His light with everyone He came across. Now we pray that even if we may not see the physical light of Christ in our immediate surroundings, that we may be the light that You have called us to be. In Jesus name. Amen

GENERAL INFO
Mandela Day

Mandela Day is scheduled for 18 June, which is a few days before the start of Term 3.  We therefore would like to make a contribution before the end of this term to this very meaningful outreach!  This year we would like to support Royal Kids - a NPO invested in the wellbeing of children in under resourced communities.  Royal kids use the discarded linen from Marriott International hotels and produce 1000 thread Egyptian cotton shirts for these young people.  To date they have dressed over 267 000 children across our country. Together with the shirt, they supply each child with a warm jacket, a new pair of school shoes, socks and the shirt. Our contribution would be in the form of a civvies day collection.  We wish to ask for a minimum of a R10 donation but if you are willing and able to contribute more to this worthy cause, please feel free to do so. This civvies day will be held on Wednesday 15 June.

HIGHLIGHTS
Grade N

The Grade N's were treated to Gilly's phenomenal storytelling skills on - Africa Day. They also learned all about Shapes and Numbers took part in various creative activities.

Grade R

We are so busy in Grade R and there is so much fun to be had. From building houses out of big Lego blocks, digging and making jelly out of Lego moulds in the sandpit and practicing our climbing skills. We are never short of things to do here at Grade R.

Grade 1

The boys continued to explore the oo sound in their reading and writing. Look at their good work in their books! They also made oo words with fruit loops. What a hoot!

Grade 2

This week the Grade 2’s have been learning the ‘igh’ sound. They created some impressive Mighty Knights. Many were off to save villages, princesses and off to battle. Some entertaining speech bubbles read: “Here, here, I will be saving evereebodee!”, “We must go to battle. Have no mersee.” A mighty knight was also seen saying to his horse: “Keep on going, you are doing well!” In Maths the Grade 2’s revised 3D shapes and put their artistic talents to the test when making their own poster in their books. We’ve had a happy week and have been grateful to be able to play outside in the chilly, but sunny weather.
