Dear Parents

The early mornings are getting a little chilly and the evenings, equally as fresh. The days are unpredictable and sometimes it gets really cold. Please make sure that boys have a jersey (clearly marked) in their bag every day for school.

As the boys grow and change, we encourage you to review and perhaps add one or two items to their lunch boxes as many are growing at an alarming rate and others go straight to sport after school.  As they grow, so do their appetites and some boys are still hungry after eating what has been packed.

To all the superheroes out there who are our Mums, those that fulfil the role of a Mum or who are perhaps Mums to be and those Mums who are fondly remembered - we wish you a wonderful Mother's Day on Sunday.

Wishing our amazing Ms Claire du Toit, a wonderful birthday on Saturday!

DIARY DATES
Sunday 08 May Mothers' Day

Wishing all the mothers and mother figures in our Bishops community a wonderful day!
Wednesday 23rd June End of Term

Please note that the second term will end on Wednesday 22 June and NOT Thursday 23rd June as previously communicated.
TAKE NOTE
Uniforms

An enormous thank you to parents for ensuring that the boys are correctly dressed in their winter uniforms.  There are still a few boys that need a haircut as it has grown quite a bit since the start of the term. Would you all kindly check that name tags are still clearly visible as it makes it really difficult to return unmarked clothing. Hockey sticks, tennis racquets, lunch boxes etc all please need a name as well.
Library
There are still quite a few boys who are forgetting their library bags and books.  The most frequent excuse is "my mom never packed it in".  We are trying very hard to get boys to become responsible and independent so please parents, do not make this your responsibility.  The boys can be reminded, but they need to be the ones packing their bags and remembering to bring their goodies along. The library days are on the online parent calendar so it is very easy to see which day your son has library and you can then remind him. Books need to be returned before a new one is issued.
PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP
Message from our Youth Pastor

The Lord be with you

This week we applauded our Muslim brothers and their community for completing their Ramadan month where they fast from dawn to sunset, and this took the Christian community back to when we marked our lent season with fasting and giving alms. We continue to wish our Muslim brother and community a happy Eid Mubrak.

As we look towards Mother’s Day on Sunday, we took a moment to look at all the mother figures in our lives such as our teachers and Bishops staff and the role they play in mothering us here at school. We looked at the story of Mother Esther who was able to help an entire nation and save them from the cruelty of Haman.

It is with this in mind that we thank all mothers and motherly figures in our lives for the sacrifices and love that they provide in and out of season. Happy Mother’s Day!

Let us pray

Lord, we thank you for the gift of our mothers and the roles they play in ensuring our wellness and we give thanks for the blessed mother Mary who gave us the gift of salvation and redemption, through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Amen

GENERAL INFO

Fire Drill

You may have heard about the fire drill we had at school this week. Despite this being a rather time consuming exercise, it is very necessary.  Boys are quite intrigued with this event and are never quite sure if it is real or not.  Today, one of the boys asked "is this a real fire" to which another replied, "it can't be, not even the hadeeda's are scared". Never a dull moment in and around the Pre-Prep!

Aftercare

A gentle reminder that boys are not permitted to wait around unattended, between activities.  Boys need to report to aftercare when their specific activity is finished and will be directed to their new activity, at the correct time, by the aftercare supervisors.
Sport

A general reminder that if boys do not come to school with their correct, full sports kit for a specific sport, they will unfortunately NOT be permitted to participate in the activities and will need to sit and watch.  There are many boys who still do not have their tag rugby shirts and will not be able to participate in the Friday tag days without it.  We urge you to please help your son check that he has all the required equipment for a specific sport, and that it is packed in his bag where he can find it. This includes items such as gum guards, hockey sticks, shin pads, tag kit etc. We often try and protect our children from these hard but necessary disappointments so please do not be tempted to drop kit off that has been forgotten.

HIGHLIGHTS
Fun at Aftercare

Your afternoons can be full of fun, well supervised right here at school in Aftercare!

Grade 1

This week the grade 1's have been very busy inside and outside the classroom. Some of the boys have been learning new hockey skills on the astro. In the classroom we have been focusing on our new phonics sound - 'ch'.

Grade 2

The Grade 2 boys enjoyed a typical Cape Town day on Thursday playing soccer before school in cold, misty conditions and then playing hockey after school in beautiful sunny weather. Lots of interesting news was shared about the various Eid celebrations and the long weekend. The boys have also been having fun preparing for Mother’s Day. We wish all our special moms a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.

The Grade N's have been learning about birds this week. We have painted with feathers and created a beautiful peacock. We learnt about the famous Hadeda and found some on our sports field.
