Dear Parents

We all survived to tell the tale.  Thank you so very much to every family that so generously donated towards our Pre-Prep team of cyclists.  This is the first year that we have been able to particpate and we hope to be able to do this again, for such a worthy cause! The cyclathon raised in excess of R500 000 in total for the VUSA rugby and learning academy, which is the primary outreach project for Bishops. An exerpt from a Thank you letter from Mr Reeler: For those of you who do not fully understand the impact of your efforts, the funds you raised will contribute to the employment of 15 coaches and teachers, will feed 200 children each day, transport children to weekly rugby fixtures, purchase software for online educational programmes, purchase books for the mobile library or will provide the occasional outing to give children access to our beautiful city.

Every cent VUSA raises ensures that primary school children in the Langa community have access to better
opportunities. Teachers in the Langa schools are overwhelmed with huge classes and lack resources to
manage their load. Most schools in Langa do not have the human resources or facilities to run sport or extra
mural programmes. The ECD centres we work with lack school readiness programmes. Our programmes
support them (rather than replace them) and create a place of safety for children every afternoon.

Wishing Mrs Brombacher a very happy birthday for 22nd August. Trusting you will all have a restful and cosy weekend.

Kind regards

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP

The Lord be with you

Our time together this week was one of reflecting on the rules and laws set out for us in different spaces and what it means to abide within the set rules and what the consequences and dangers are when we find ourselves disobeying the set rules. We focussed on the different rules there are that police and govern us in the places we find ourselves namely, at home, school, in the classroom and on the playground or sporting fields (and even in our country).

We read in the book of Exodus where God, through Moses, handed down the rules for all people who are called by His name tolive by. We know them as the Ten Commandments. These rules would turn out to be the guide for all people to live by. In moments when these rules were not maintained, we would find ourselves on the other side of God's will and intention.

So, we agreed that rules are not there just to control and police us but are put in place for our own safety and wellness so that we can co-exist in peace and harmony. We should do our best to remain within the regulations set for us since it is for our good.

Let us pray

Lord of splendour, concord and peace, you have set before us laws and rules to keep us safe and to protect all your people from straying from your intention and love. We acknowledge that which we may engage and abstain from and ask for strength to overcome our frailty, in the name of Christ.

Amen

GENERAL INFO
Grandparents/Special Guest Tea

Gosh, what an overwhelming response we have had for this event!  We are really bursting at the seams with 500+ guests who have responded.  We once again just want to remind everyone that this event is not for parents, but for Grandparents or a special guest you would like to invite. Please do not keep boys at home if they have no special guest, I am sure many boys would be willing to share their guest or grandparents so why not double up if you do not have anyone in particular who can attend.

Grade N

The Grade Ns have had lots of fun this week learning all about Dinosaurs.  The boys have created their own 'Dino Worlds' using different art materials and enjoyed sensory play with our new Dinosaur playdough set.

Although it has been a very rainy week, our Grade N classes were a hive of activity with lots of games being played, building with construction and 'cooking' in the fantasy play area.

Our weekly Physical Literacy lesson is always an exciting and enjoyable activity for our boys. Thank you, Coach Julia and Coach Carel!

Grade R

This week the Grade Rs enjoyed learning about Kicking King. They brought some interesting show-and-tell that started with a ‘k’ and made some crafty creations. Some of the favourites were clay kittens and collage kites.

The boys have enjoyed our new marble run and some of the parents got involved, on Wednesday, in building an amazing magnetic one.

Grade 1

This week our wild animal story was the Black and White Club by Alice Hemming. We were able to have some wonderful conversations around exclusion and creating their own club and would be able to attend it.

In celebrating Women’s Day, we also spent some time talking about Jane Goodall and her scientific contribution to what we know about chimpanzees. The boys loved sharing about the women who are influential in their lives.

We continue to learn about blends during our Literacy Time and the boys were in for big surprise today! We hope they tell you all about it!

Grade 2

What a busy week our Grade 2 explorers have had! Mrs Fraser’s class went off to Newlands Forest and built shelters that survived the ‘Storm’. Meanwhile, the other classes got a chance to be explorers and had to decide which essential items they would need to include in their backpacks for a journey into the unknown.

The boy’s cursive handwriting is really coming along. We are so proud of their beautiful work.
