Dear Parents

We trust that you all had a lovely Easter break.  We are navigating our way through a few 4 day weeks so please remind the boys what day they have sport as the short weeks are really confusing for some of them.

While some teachers have been off for various reasons, we should be back to a full staff compliment from Monday.  We therefore revert back to emails as usual and will not respond to emails sent to Mrs van Heerden at this time.

We seem to be collecting many unmarked tracksuit tops and pants. We urge you to please check that items of clothing are clearly marked as it is not possible to return items to their rightful owners when they are unmarked.  Please use the little name labels that were issued to mark tennis racquets and hockey sticks as well.

As you are all aware, there was a devastating fire in Langa this past weekend.  If there are any parents that would like to donate items of clothing, bedding, kitchen equipment, or anything else that may be able to be distributed to those in need, please feel free to send them to school.  Mr Tsotso, our Youth Pastor, will make sure that they are distributed to the intended recipients. We are mindful that many may be contributing to the disaster relief for KZN but if there are those that wish to donate to this local cause in Langa, we are happy to be a collection point.

We wish Ms Nurene Maged, our aftercare supervisor, a wonderful birthday on 25th.

Kind regards

TAKE NOTE

Winter Uniform

As per my previous correspondence, the Pre-prep boys will be required to wear Winter uniforms from Tuesday 3 May. This affects mainly the Grade 1 and 2 boys but a new agreement in wet weather, is that GRADE N AND R boys may wear plain navy blue gumboots to school, should they choose to, to avoid their takkies getting wet and muddy. No pictures, coloured soles or lights that flash - just plain navy boots. Please make sure that their boots are clearly marked. If the boys have sport after school, they would need to bring their takkies along to change into after school. Please if any new parents are unsure of what Winter uniforms look like, please check the list on MyBishopsLife or contact your class reps.

Sport

Our Term 3 sport programme has started and we have had wonderful weather to be able kick start our Winter programme.  Please note that Tag Rugby still continues if it is raining a little - so it may be a good idea to keep a plastic packet in your boot for wet t-shirts and shorts on such days. If your son cannot attend a practise for some reason, kindly contact his coach for that particular sport or his class teacher.  A comprehensive explanation of all sport was sent out on 12 April with all contact details of school sport coaches, please refer to that email for further details. Please do not send Grade 1 and 2 boys to school in tag kit, they need to change into their tag gear after school. Grade R boys play tag in their school shorts and golf shirt.

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP
Message from our Youth Pastor

Alleluia Christ is risen

He is risen indeed.  Alleluia

It was a great joy to have had a beautiful easter season and to listen to how the boys spent their Easter weekend. I also hope that this past weekend was a blessing for the Jewish members of our community who celebrated Passover. as well as for our Muslim brothers who are in the heart of their Ramadan month. We continue to pray for strength for the Muslim family's in our community as you continue to fast and pray for the remainder of the month of Ramadan.

This week we reflected on the account on Simon of Cyrene who had helped Jesus to carry the cross to the hill, and spoke about how we should help wherever we can, being it at home, school and wherever we find ourselves. It is encouraging to hear that some of our boys help around their homes. We see them assist teachers around the classroom and help their friends whenever necessary.

Let us pray

We thank you Lord for this past week and for the gift of family. We pray that you always encourage us to support each other and help us to always be willing to lend a helping hand to all those who need it. In the name of Jesus.

Amen

Easter Egg Donation
Thank you thank you - some of the grateful recipients of our easter egg drive.
Grade R

This week the Grade Rs had a BRILLIANT week learning about Bouncy Ben. They made BEAUTIFUL symmetrical BUTTERFLIES and were allowed to take a BOOK home from the library, for the very first time.

Grade 2

It has been such fun reading Play Scrips books during our reading lessons this week. Some of the boys have enjoyed ‘becoming’ the characters from our Oxford Reading Tree series. Some have even had the opportunity to play the part of Floppy the beloved family dog who provides much entertainment in these stories. In Literacy we have moved on to learning long vowel sounds and have focused on the i magic e sound this week. The boys made kites as one of their spelling activities and are looking forward to the next windy day so that they can see how high their new kites can fly.
