Dear Parents

The smiles from both boys and parents at the gate on Tuesday were indeed an indication of how happy everyone was to be back at school.  Needless to say, to see real smiles (and many boys with new teeth) was priceless! We trust that you all had a wonderful break and that you have settled into the new term effortlessly.  As we adapt again to what was, before masks, may we also not forget the lessons learnt along the way and merge this knowledge with fresh eyes, into this new chapter.  In the words of Alex Morritt - A new chapter, new verse, or just the same old story? Ultimately we write it, the choice is ours.
May we navigate this space together, successfully.

We will maintain the daily allocation of visiting days for parents but as you do stroll through the campus, please take time to admire the beautiful new jungle gym structure on the Grade 1 playground.  Thank you to Solid Wood Structures for the beautiful work but more importantly, a huge shout out to our PA who have generously covered the cost of this new upgrade. We are immensely grateful and I know that the boys are eagerly awaiting permission to explore this delightful space.

We welcome Mrs Greeff and Mrs Furst who are relieving in Gr 2 and R respectively. Wishing you a happy and sunny weekend and Mrs Furst a wonderful birthday on Tuesday 26th. .

Kind regards

TAKE NOTE
Sport

A reminder that both early morning and afternoon activities will commence from Monday.  The only changes are drama (gr 1 and 2) and chess (grade R) which are now offered to the Red classes. Please remind boys to pack all their kit on sport days as they become extremely disappointed when things are left at home. We really want boys to take responsibility for packing their own bags for these activities.
PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP

Message from our Youth Pastor

The Lord be with you

It is lovely to have you all back and in good health. We pray and hope that the holidays were refreshing and enjoyed by spending time with friends and family.

We began this week with a reading about the Good Samaritan from the Gospel of Luke 10:25-37. We learned that our neighbour is not just a person who lives next door to us. We discovered that they can be anyone who crosses our path. The boys found that distance is not the only factor that defines our neighbours. It also means that our differences can bring us together and that we can live in cohesion with each other by acts of compassion and love.

Let us pray

Loving God teach us to love and to have compassion for all people. Plant the seed of fellowship and communion in our hearts so that we may learn to love and treat all people as you would.

In the name of Christ our Lord

GENERAL INFO
Readathon week ( 29 August - 2 September)

This term we are hosting an extremely exciting Readathon Week which, along with many exciting activities, will include a Grandparents and Special Guest tea.  This is for Grandparents of boys. If Grandparents are not able to attend, they may invite a special guest in their place. Please diarise so that there is no disappointment.  Dates are indicated in the Diary Dates above.

Independent Schools Rugby Festival

As some of you may know, Bishops hosted the Independent Schools Rugby Festival during the school holidays.  Bishops invited the VUSA U13 team to the festival and what an unbelievable experience it was for them.  Our teams made new friends from around the country and on Day 3 of the festival enjoyed a tour around Cape Town.  Despite being residents of our beautiful city, it was a first for many of our children.  VUSA won all their matches and whilst they know winning isn’t everything, they left the festival with a lot more confidence and self-esteem than when they arrived four days earlier. Thank you to everyone, especially Coronation Fund Managers and the Bishops Prep PA for making it possible for our children access this incredible experience.

Bishops will be hosting The VUSA Rugby and Learning Academy again on Saturday. VUSA forms an important part of our outreach and social cohesion programme at Bishops. For more about the programme visit www.vusarugbyacademy.com.

HIGHLIGHTS
Grade N
The Grade N classes are alive with insects and bugs. All the boys have had a wonderful first week back, playing with friends and learning all about insects
Grade R

The Grade R boys are so happy to be back at school. We are enjoying learning about Quarrelsome Queen from Letterland and having fun drawing with Quill pens and real ink! It is our 100 days in Grade R now and we made a paper chain boasting a total of 100 links. Another exiting addition to the playground is this wonderful new balance beam. Much fun is to be had clambering across it every day. Thank you, teachers!

Grade 1

It was wonderful to welcome back all our grade 1's this week and hear all the wonderful winter news! It is such an exciting time of the year where the boys are now able to write sentences and read more fluently.

The boys are also waiting with bated breath for our jungle gym to be completed! We are looking forward to many hours of fun.

Grade 2

The Grade 2's completed their winter windy day pictures in art to compliment the 'y' sounds that says 'e' that they've been learning about this week. We are encouraging them all to shoot for the stars this term as they get ready to move on to Grade 3 next year!
