Dear Parents

After a busy Readathon week and Grandparents/Special guest day last week, this week has been just as exciting. Our Grade 1 and 2 boys participated in their first ever chess match against Rondebosch Prep. They returned victorious and were not shy to share their proud moment with anyone they passed. On Wednesday, some of our Grade 1 and 2 boys played in a Hockey tournament. We had some very excited boys learning the basics of tackle rugby with Prep school coaches, after tag rugby on Fridays. This week one of the Grade 1 classes was rewarded with a pyjama day, while new Gentleman and Class Award badges were handed out in Chapel on Monday morning. Our campus is a hive of activity and we love the the sound of our boys laughing and playing around the school.

We will host our tag end of season internal festival and family braai/picnic soon, which is the culmination of tag for our Grade 2 boys as they move on to Grade 3 and to more competitive style tackle rugby. As we head to the end of a Winter sport season, we are so proud of the boys and how much they have developed over the last two terms both on the sports field and in the classroom.

As we get ready for our Summer season, we appeal to our Grade R parents please to ensure that their boys are water safe and preferably able to swim by the time they start in Grade 1. Swimming is part of our school curriculum from Grade 1 (PE lessons) so all boys are required to be in the pool. If you are not sure of a swimming school that can offer such lessons, to get your son swimming or at least water safe, please contact your class teachers and they will advise you.

The Prep and Pre-Prep Parents Association Committee met this morning, and I am pleased to announce the office bearers: Chair - Nida Hendrickse; Treasurer - Shanita Sam; Secretary - Karine Young. We thank each one of them for being willing to take on these roles. We look forward to the contribution they will no doubt make, together with the other members of the Committee, within the Bishops community, as well as with our partnership schools and projects.

We would like to wish Miss Charmaine Heynes a wonderful Happy Birthday on the 15th September.

Kind regards

PRE-PREP PRAYER GROUP

Message from our Youth Pastor

The Lord be with you

Hebrews 12:27-28 suggests that there will be times and days when everything that can be shaken is shaken.  When that happens, we must also remember that things which cannot be shaken will remain intact.

So what does this mean for us? It means we must find God’s hope amid the chaos and uncertainty of the times. We need to be able to say as David did, “I have set the LORD always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved” (Psalm 16:8). This means hope must be more than a nice theory — it must be reality for us.

We give thanks for everything that this week has brought into our spaces.  Without change and challenges in our lives, life will be so simple.  We need to embrace and welcome all that happens in our lives.

Amen

HIGHLIGHTS
Grade 2

We have been talking about the friendship bench which is positioned on the field just above the Grade 2 playground. These are some of our boys’ thoughts about what the friendship bench means to them.

We have been working with Numicon using multiplication and probability this week, it’s great to see these mathematicians at work!

Mrs Greeff’s class went on their long-awaited shelter building outing in Newlands Forest on Tuesday. They bult some rather impressive shelters and had a fabulous morning of fresh air and being surrounded by beautiful nature.

Chess match
Some of our Grade 1 and 2 chess players played in their first ever chess match against Rondebosch Boys.  What an exciting afternoon. We are very proud of every single boy that participated in this event.  Well done boys!  Thank you to Mrs Stuart for taking the boys to play.
Grade 1

The Grade 1s continued to explore wild animals this week and read the story, “There’s a lion in my cornflakes.” We wrote about what it would be like to have our own lion. We learnt all about end blends this week. We found  a lamp in a tent, tasted some mints and drank some lemon twist. We also attempted some hand stands and frog jumps. Then we used some ink from our stamp pads to add some creepy crawly ants to an ant tank.

Grade R

This week the Grade Rs have been learning about things that can be found Under the Ground. They mined for precious stones, drew creatures in their underground burrows, sponge painted some symmetrical ants and had a great time building houses in the sandpit. The Grade R teachers are apologising in advance for any mining that might happen in your garden this weekend. The boys have discovered that there are many treasures under the ground.

Hockey Tournament

Some of our Grade 1 and 2 boys played in a hockey festival hosted by Rondebosch and others played an internal match on Thursday.  All in all, we had a wonderful time. Thank you to parents who lifted and got their boys to where they needed to be.  We look forward to the next 2 weeks of hockey with much fun in store for the players.
